Ozzie MayerOzzie Mayer

Dr. Ozzie Mayers has been employed in the English department at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University since 1979 after getting his PhD with a concentration in American Literature at the University of Oregon. Before enrolling at the U of O, he taught English as a Second Language in Peace Corps for two years (Dr. Mayers was stationed in Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa). He got his master’s at the U of Arkansas. He is originally from southwest Louisiana, a full-fledged Cajun, that wonders how he ended up in the frozen tundra of MN! At CSB/SJU, he has served as Chair of the English department, directed a major FIPSE grant entitled Gender and the Curriculum, was appointed as Professor of Gender Ed and Development, and now teaches English and Gender and Women Studies’ courses. Dr. Mayers thought One course the AOTM might be interested in knowing about is, Introduction to Gender Studies, which focuses on men and masculinities. Dr. Mayers states, "We are one of the very few schools of higher education which addresses issues of men and masculinities along with issues of women and feminism.”
